The first thing every person should do in the morning is have themselves a good stretch. Some people will do a small version of this without thinking as a natural reaction to waking up, while others do it as a morning ritual. No matter your reason, there are a handful of health benefits related to a good morning stretch that should convince you to add it to your morning routine.
Reduce & Prevent Back Pain
Waking up in the morning and feeling slight back pain due to tense muscles isn’t abnormal at all. Stretching will help reduce the tension on your spine and surrounding muscles. If you have a history of back pain due to injury or a condition, stretching can only do so much and won’t be a viable solution to your back problems.
Flexibility & Posture
For those who sit for a good portion of their day, they will experience tight muscles throughout their back, hips, and legs. Taking a few minutes each morning to stretch these areas will help relax any tight muscles and improve your flexibility. Not only will tense muscles reduce your flexibility, but it can also negatively affect your posture. By stretching, your muscles will become lengthened and relaxed which will positively affect your posture.
Circulation & Energy
Stretching will increase the flow of blood to the muscles you’re working on. Due to the increase of blood flow to those muscles, your energy levels should also rise. Your brain will also receive more blood which will boost your concentration levels as soon as you wake up. Start your stretches slow, pause for a few seconds, and slowly exhale for an optimal stretching experience.
