Letting Go of That Little Petty Grudge

A+ A-

holding a grduge | assisted living | long island

Grudges are something that can last a week or a lifetime. They can be held for a variety of different reasons and can be hard to let go. If you or a loved one has been holding onto a grudge for far too long, it may be time to sit down and figure out a solution.

Be Upset
It’s okay to take some time away from the person you’re mad at. Put some distance between yourself and them so you can allow yourself some time to be upset. This will give you the time to think, reflect on the situation, and prevent you from saying something you’d regret.

Not For Too Long
Allowing yourself some time to be upset is perfectly okay, but don’t let it drag on for too long. Allow a few days to go by so you can really think about it, and then you want to proceed with trying to let it go. Try writing your feelings down so you can read them later and see if this is something that is worth being upset over. After a couple of days have passed, confront the person you’re mad at.

Now it’s time to talk with the person you have a conflict with. Try having a third person sit in on the conversation; one that does not favor either side more than the other. This way they can offer their opinion and advice to both parties. The point of the conversation is to air out your feelings in an effort to resolve the situation, heal, and move forward.

When you feel like it’s hard to let go of a grudge, think back to all of the good times you and that person have shared. The action a person took against you doesn’t always define who that person is. Everyone makes mistakes and if you can remember who that person truly is, then one action shouldn’t represent the entire relationship.

Letting go of a grudge can be a difficult task for some, but sometimes a grudge isn’t worth losing a friendship over. For other useful tips and information, visit our blog!
