How to be Prepared: 

A Therapist’s Court Testimony, Mandated Reporting and Record Release

Derrick Rubin, ESQ., Wisselman & Associates 

Issues relating to testifying in Court will include: subpoenaed records; pre-trial 

preparation and preparing your notes; direct and cross examination, including credentials, opinion and importance of continuity between written report and oral testimony; and what therapists’ rights and responsibilities are to their client and to the Court. We will share guidelines on presenting yourself in this situation.

Update in Elder Law and Estate Planning

Social workers will be educated on the updates in elder law and estate planning issues that could arise as they work with patients involved with hospital, assisted living, rehabilitation center and the like. Tax reform will be addressed, providing social workers with the most recent information.  Attorney will share some crisis scenarios and the complications involved vs. the process when planning takes place in advance. The timeline and the process will be shown with both approaches. Presentation will include Medicaid planning and applications along with elder law issues relating to families with a mentally ill member, a special needs child or someone with Alzheimer’s/Dementia.

Medicare annual open enrollment is from October 15th to December 7, 2018.  Gracemarie Horan-Luce, licensed representative, from Senior Health Plan Specialists will present an educational presentation about Medicare and the changes for 2019. Topics include Medicare parts A, B and D, Medicare Advantage Plans and Medigap policies.  Whether you are helping someone who is new to Medicare or interested in changes to existing coverage, learn how to navigate Medicare.
