How Do You Make Caregiving More Fun?

How Do You Make Caregiving More Fun?
June 29, 2017
Are you currently looking after a loved one while they are ill or in their old age? The main goal of being a caregiver is to ensure your loved one is healthy and happy. In order for them to be happy, make sure you are doing things that are fun! This fun shouldn’t just be for the person you’re taking care of, it should be fun for you as well.
Sing & Dance
One of the easiest ways to have fun is to turn on some music, sing along to the words, and dance to the rhythm! Create a playlist of music that your loved one adores and hit play. Music can oftentimes be nostalgic and bring you back to the exact time and place when you first heard or most enjoyed it. Simply playing this music while enjoying each other’s company can make a silent conversation one that’s filled with laughter and soul!
Enjoy Tasty Food
When it comes to seniors and those with medical conditions or illnesses, food restrictions can limit the food your loved one can eat. However, there will usually be a few types of food they love that they can still enjoy in moderation. Ask them which foods they love best, consult with their physician on what their restrictions are, and surprise them with it! On some days, make the food from scratch alongside them so it can be a fun activity for you both to share.
Celebrate Everything
Birthdays and holidays are some of the happiest times of the year — so why limit these happy times to only a few times per year? Use any holiday as a reason to celebrate, whether it’s St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, or the beginning of a new season. Hanging decorations, making themed food, etc. can make a boring day into one that’s filled with love and laughter. Hang a calendar in their room with all of the holidays circled so they have these days to look forward to!
Caregiving can be a tough job, but that doesn’t mean you and your loved one can’t have fun each and every day! For other useful tips and information, visit our blog!
