How to Get a Better Night’s Sleep

How to Get a Better Night’s Sleep
June 7, 2016
Do you catch yourself staying up late at night; tossing and turning without getting a wink of sleep? Unfortunately, many people have this issue and it will affect your mood, but more importantly your health. By adding a few activities to your daily routine you’ll be able to get those seven to eight hours of sleep that your body needs.
Nature Calls
According to a study at the University of Illinois, those who are 65 and older that spend some of their day in nature are more likely to have a better night’s sleep. Being exposed to natural light during the day and darkness at night will keep your body in a constant rhythm. Exposure to the great outdoors once per day could add up to an extra 45 minutes to your current sleep schedule.
Day In and Day Out
Find a routine that you love, stick to it each day, and you will see an improvement in your sleep schedule. Try to do your main daily activities and eat your meals at roughly the same times each day. Of course you don’t want to do the same thing day in and day out, but creating a rough outline of your day will help you accomplish all that you need to. This will result in your body becoming accustomed to those activities, including falling asleep at the same time each night.
Stay Active
It’s time to ditch the extra fries and start with the exercise! Working out, going for a fast walk, or joining an exercise group is a great way to stay healthy. Those who exercise will also receive a better night’s sleep compared to those who did not exercise that day. It doesn’t matter if it’s the morning or at night; just as long as you stay active!
A good night’s sleep is important for your health so it’ important to include a few key activities into your daily routine. Luckily, The Arbors Assisted Living community promotes daily exercise, outside activities, and an itinerary of activities for residents to follow as they please.
