July is officially a wrap and boy, oh boy was it a fun month here at The Arbors! Alongside the jam-packed itineraries at each of The Arbors’ communities, there were a handful of special events that our residents experienced — and had a blast with! Here’s a quick recap of all the fun events from July:
4th of July – Veterans BBQ
The veterans of the Hauppauge community attended a wonderful BBQ thrown by the Hauppauge Fire Department. During the celebration, Fire Marshall, Ronald Walker, presented our Resident Council President, Allen Handburger, with a wooden American flag made by 94-year-old veteran, Gerald Goldman. This prestigious flag will be displayed on our Veterans Wall within our community. It was a great day having our veterans and their families spend time with the local firemen.
Chair Tai Chi Class
Move over world, the residents of Islandia West are coming through! During this fun and educational class, our residents learned about the benefits of Tai Chi and how it can improve one’s health. Tai Chi can enhance flexibility, balance, and agility to help with fewer falls. It can also help lower levels of depression, anxiety, stress, blood pressure, and inflammation. Do you feel the burn?
Glee Club Semi-Annual Performance
“L is for the way you look at me!” Our talented residents from the Westbury Glee Club put on what a show! Joined by their friends and families, the Glee Club performed a set list of romantic and sentimental love songs for their semi-annual performance. What a talented bunch we have!
Paint & Sip
Would you look at those works of art!? Our Islandia East residents enjoyed an afternoon of creativity and fun by painting in such energetic groups. Each and every resident was so excited with how their artwork turned out, we decided to set up an Islandia Art Show to proudly display them. Picasso has nothing on our residents!
Islandia Art Show
One week after our Paint & Sip, we displayed all of the works of art in our Islanida Art Gallery. With gorgeous painting from both residents and staff, family and friends attended to admire each of the creative pieces. To make the night even better, a violin performance captured the audience to make this night truly special!
