Have you ever gotten a headache so bad it felt like someone was beating your head like a drum? Not only are headaches painful, but they can seriously limit how much you can get done throughout your day. Headaches can happen for a multitude of reasons and it’s important for you to know how, so you can avoid them at all costs.
Only Drinking When You’re Thirsty
Naturally, you’re going to drink something when you’re thirsty. However, if you’re consistently waiting to drink until this point, your body will experience dehydration on a regular basis. The worst part about dehydration — you’ll feel its effects long after drinking some water. As soon as you feel a headache coming on, think about if you’ve had enough water that day.
Stressing Out
High levels of stress can oftentimes cause the muscles in a person’s neck to tighten up and restrict blood flow. This will lead to built up tension in those muscles and eventual headaches that can last as long as you’re stressed out. To overcome stress and relieve your headaches, practice slow and steady breaths, meditate, or participate in an activity you enjoy to calm you down and de-stress yourself.
The Wrong Dosage
Headaches are a common side effect of many different types of medications. If you started developing headaches as soon as you started taking a specific medication, consult your physician. Oftentimes, doctors will be able to prescribe you a different type of medication or even lower the dosage.
A Drop in Blood Sugar
Skipping a meal (or waiting too long in between meals without having a snack to hold you over) can cause your blood sugar levels to drop significantly. This drop off can instantly cause a headache, especially for those with conditions like diabetes. To increase your blood sugar levels, have a snack or meal filled with simple carbohydrates. These simple carbs will be absorbed into your bloodstream, clearing up that awful headache.
