At The Arbors Communities, residents are encouraged to join the Adult Education program where they continue to learn about different topics each month. The semester starts in August and concludes in June with The Arbors Prom and Graduation ceremony. This ceremony was especially meaningful for one of our graduates. Lydia Kessler, from The Arbors at Westbury, never participated in her High School Graduation. Lydia graduated from Seward Park High School in 1949 and received her diploma but due to taking summer classes, she was unable to graduate in the ceremony with her class. She graduated this year and was nominated as the valedictorian for the Class of 2016. Lydia made sure to attend every Adult Education class, never missing a single one! Last year was also her first formal Prom where she was voted by her peers to be the Prom Queen!
Lydia was “very excited to have the whole schmeer” including being the valedictorian and walking in the graduation ceremony along with her peers while wearing a cap and gown in front of her loved ones. “I finally fulfilled an over 50 year goal that I always wanted to accomplish. The Arbors helped me achieve that goal! At last, I had my graduation ceremony!”
