Have you been feeling down in the dumps lately? Maybe something has been on your mind that’s been throwing off your usual mood? If you’re looking to get out of that funk, then boy, do we have just the tips for you!
- Vitamin D – Those who aren’t receiving enough vitamin D each day are more susceptible to feeling depressed. To boost your mood, add some foods to your diet that are high in vitamin D like tuna, dairy, and fortified cereals. You should also make sure that you’re receiving enough sunlight each day.
- Go for a Walk – Exercise is a great way for a person to release any pent up stress they might have. Focusing on improving your health, body, and self-esteem will help you forget about whatever is on your mind. Keep your eye on the prize and one foot in front of the other!
- Do it Outside – Walking on the treadmill is a great way to exercise — when it’s cold out. If the temperatures are warm enough, go for your daily walk outside. Studies have shown that walking in the great outdoors is proven to battle depression more so than a walk inside. This will also give you the opportunity to get your daily dose of sunlight.
- Stay in the Light – If you’re the type of person who likes to sleep in and stay up late, try to reverse your habits. Start waking up earlier and going to bed earlier so you can be awake for more hours of the day when it’s light out than when it’s dark. You can beat the blues by keeping the light in your life as much as possible.
- Purpose – Studies have shown that people who feel like they have a sense of purpose tend to be happier. If you’re retired and need activities to fill your time, volunteer to help others. Whether that means helping out with a volunteer program or just helping out a friend, create a sense of purpose for yourself. Not only will this bring a light to your life, but also to the person (or people) you are helping as well.
