3 Brain Health Myths

There’s a lot of information available on brain health, but how much of it is true. Every topic is going to have its own set of commonly believed myths — brain health included. So here are a few brain health myths you NEED to be aware of!

Myth #1: An Old Dog Can’t Learn New Tricks

Learning new things is one of the best things you can do to help stimulate (and improve) brain function. Every person should always be trying out new things, taking new classes, reading up on a foreign subject, or even just taking a current skill or hobby to a more advanced level. Learning new things is something you can do (and should do) at ALL ages.

Myth #2: Preserving Brain Function is Difficult

Yes, you should always challenge yourself so that no activity is ever TOO easy. However, if you genuinely enjoy the activity you’re participating in, nothing will ever be overly difficult. The more you take pleasure in doing something, the more you’ll do it, and the better you’ll become at it. As the old saying goes, “You’ll never work a day in your life if you do something you enjoy.” Well, the same rule applies here!

Myth #3: It’s Possible to Prevent Dementia

There are a handful of prevention methods that can help lower your risk for developing memory loss diseases, such as dementia. Unfortunately, even a person who seemingly does everything right can still develop this horrid disease. There is no single action or thing that can stop a person from developing this disease, which means you need to focus on being an all-around healthier person (both physically and mentally).
