We’ve moved on from summer and are now looking forward to autumn and the beautiful weather, foliage, and holidays that come with it. September was a jam-packed month filled with more events and fun than we could even list! Here are a few events that put smiles on our faces this past month:
Arthur & Carol’s Anniversary
Residents, staff and family members of Arthur and Carol Mitchell gathered together to celebrate 53 years of marriage! What an accomplishment! Carol and Arthur stood in front of everyone outside while the sun set and expressed how much life has meant with each other. After the ceremony, everyone gathered inside for music, food, and dancing. Arthur and Carol made a champagne toast, cut the cake, and danced to “It Had To Be You.” Arthur mentioned the dance lessons he took when he was younger definitely came in handy. Cheers to Arthur & Carol!
Joe’s 80 Years of Service
Members of the Wyandanch Fire Company visited our Islandia East community to present an award to our resident Joe for his 80 years of service to the fire department. Family and friends gathered to celebrate this special milestone. Congratulations Joe! We are so grateful for your service, and the many other men and women who serve our communities!
Character Pancake Breakfast and Intergenerational Show
In honor of Grandparents Day and National Assisted Living week, The Arbors at Islandia hosted a Character Pancake Breakfast and Intergenerational show. The morning included balloon animals, face painting, temporary tattoos, a photo booth, pictures with Tinkerbell, followed by a magic comedy act and animal show. Smiles were plentiful across the faces of residents and children alike!
9/11 Ceremony
Our Veterans were invited to attend a 9/11 ceremony hosted by the Hauppauge Fire Department. During the ceremony, our veterans were honored for their service to this great country. Later on in the evening, everyone was given a tour of their 9/11 monument. This breathtaking monument included a beam of the World Trade Center, a slab from the Pentagon, and a stone from Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Thank you, Chief Walker and the entire Hauppauge Fire Department for your service!
Paint & Sip
Our Westbury and Hauppauge residents each enjoyed a Paint & Sip afternoon. Wine, cheese, and crackers were offered as refreshments while they embraced their creative sides. They were thrilled to participate in a very unique event and were so proud of their masterpieces. All of their fine artwork will be entered in our upcoming gallery night!
Rosh Hashanah
Rabbi Moss, along with members of B’nai Israel Reform Temple, joined our residents to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. The Shofar was played and residents remembered traditions they had with their families. The room was filled with singing and laughter as the resident enjoyed some tasty honey cake and rugelach!
