Know the Signs of a Stroke, BE FAST

October 5, 2026

A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, and immediate medical attention can make a life-saving difference.

Knowing the signs of a stroke can help you protect yourself and those around you. A helpful way to remember them is with the phrase BE FAST:

B – Balance: Sudden loss of balance, coordination, or dizziness.
E – Eyes: Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes, or blurred vision.
F – Face Drooping: One side of the face may droop or feel numb. Ask the person to smile—does it look uneven?
A – Arm Weakness: One arm may feel weak or numb. Ask the person to raise both arms—does one drift downward?
S – Speech Difficulty: Speech may be slurred or hard to understand. Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence.
T – Time to Call 911: If you notice any of these signs, call 911 immediately. Time is critical.

Other possible symptoms can include sudden confusion, a severe headache with no known cause, or difficulty walking.

While strokes can happen suddenly, there are steps we can take to reduce risk. Managing blood pressure, staying active, eating a heart-healthy diet, and following your doctor’s recommendations all contribute to overall wellness.

At The Arbors, your health and safety are always a top priority. Our team is here to support you, and we encourage everyone to stay informed and look out for one another.

Remember: BE FAST can save a life—maybe even your own.
