5 Simple Ways to Help Calm Your Anxiety

5 Simple Ways to Help Calm Your Anxiety
May 24, 2017
Anxiety can be experienced at any time, in any setting, with different levels of intensity. Whether you have slight social anxiety or high anxiety due to a fear, constantly experiencing any degree of anxiety isn’t healthy. For those who need help with calming down during periods of anxiousness, try a few of these tips out.
- Unplug – Not getting enough sleep each night can increase symptoms of anxiety. Being in a state of constant anxiousness can then make you even more tired, which starts this repeating cycle. Pick a decent hour to go to bed each night for consistency and try to make sure you are getting the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep per night.
- Clean Your Space – Having a messy living space with a lot of clutter can make things harder to find and more difficult to navigate. Cleaning up and organizing your belongings will allow you to have a tidy living space that is pleasant to look at and easy to comb through.
- Write Down Thoughts – Do you ever have too many thoughts clouding your judgment and thought process? Instead of trying to remember everything, grab a pen and start jotting down all of your thoughts, ideas, goals, and your daily to-do list. By having everything written down you won’t have to worry about forgetting something or bogging your mind down with too many thoughts at one time.
- Turn Off the Noise – Studies have shown that loud, constant noises can contribute to anxiety. Each day, take some time to get away from all of the noise and concentrate on relaxing. Practicing mindfulness in a quiet place away from other people, mobile devices, televisions, etc. can help you focus on nothing but the here and now.
- Activate Your Body – During exercise, the body will release a variety of chemicals — one being serotonin. This chemical is known to help combat stress and anxiety, so increasing exercise can help eliminate feelings of anxiousness. Exercise will also improve your energy levels, overall mood, and help you lose unnecessary weight.
Overcoming anxiety can be difficult, but there are a few things you can do that can help reduce its negative effects. For other useful tips and information, visit our blog!
