The Questions Your Doctor Wants You to Ask

The Questions Your Doctor Wants You to Ask
December 14, 2016
How many times have you gone to the doctor only to answer the questions you’ve been asked? Sure, it’s great to listen to the doctor and apply their advice, but the person being examined should be asking questions left and right. By openly communicating and asking multiple questions, you and your doctor can be on the same page which will lead to a more productive examination.
What Realistic Outcome Should I Expect?
When a doctor gives you treatment options to improve a specific medical condition, many people think that their life will return to normal. However, this is far from the truth because sometimes treatments will only improve certain symptoms of a condition, not restore you to full health. Knowing the realistic expectations before starting treatment will prevent you from having false hope.
What Can I Do to Help Improve My Condition?
Choosing a treatment option that the doctor offers shouldn’t be the only choice you make. You should also be making the conscious decision to improve your current lifestyle in accordance with your doctor’s recommendations. Get the adequate amount of sleep per night, eat the right foods, drink enough water, exercise regularly, and abstain from smoking, drugs, and excessive alcohol consumption.
Are There Any Questions I Should Ask, But Haven’t?
Asking this question to your doctor may surprise them and force them to revisit the checklist of “things to know.” Sometimes a doctor might think of something a second time as they comb through their notes. One of the biggest questions patients forget to ask is “How will the treatment affect them emotionally.” Doctors will always cover the physical side effects, but it’s just as important to know of any possible psychological effects.
Going to the doctor shouldn’t be an in and out routine visit. There should be open discussion and multiple questions asked by both parties. For other useful tips and information, visit our blog!
