Looking to get your creative juices flowing? Need to find a way to increase your productivity? Try taking a stroll! Some of the most talented people credit frequent walks to their success. Not only are they great for your physical well-being— but it can also improve your mental state. So why should you take a leisurely stride?

All The Greats Do It!

Seriously, they do! Some of the best ideas, symphonies, and sonnets were products of walks. Charles Dickens would wander for an average of 30 miles a day to get inspiration. Through thought and observing his city, he was able to create some of his most memorable characters. Steve Jobs was known for strolling Palo Alto by foot, using this time to hold meetings, exercise and problem solve. Many of his successors have followed suit, with walking meetings and interviews becoming quite popular.

The Health Benefits

We know life can be hectic sometimes and intense exercise might not always be an option, which is why walking is a great alternative. Just 30 minutes a day can reduce your risk of heart disease, certain cancers, and dementia. If you can’t schedule a full 30 minutes in, take it in stride and try splitting your daily walk up into smaller walks at different times of the day. Don’t forget to be especially mindful of how often you sit throughout the day.

Get Creative

So if the talent above wasn’t inspiring enough, there’s actual science to back it up! Whether indoors or out, daily exercise can increase your creativity by 81%. Not only does it improve brain function, but the results carry over even when you sit back down. So with just a little bit of movement, you can become the next Charles Dickens or Steve Jobs!
