What to expect from rehab
What to expect from rehab
Your loved one was just admitted to a rehabilitation center…
Here is what to expect:
Restrictive environment: Will likely be in a wheelchair or bed all day except for the short time for Physical Therapy each day.
Learned Incontinence: Rehab settings or nursing homes require patients to rely on incontinence products rather than assisting them to the bathroom routinely.
Communication: Communication may be lacking.
Here is what to request:
• Care team meetings
• Discharge planning meetings
• Knowledge of patient goals for discharge
Medicare coverage: While it covers UP to 100 days, here is what you should know:
• Being there 100 days may not be BEST physically or cognitively
• What happens when insurance cuts off? (72 hours notice) and you have to pay privately ($500+ a day)
• Medicare covers day 1-20. Day 21-100 there is a daily co-pay.
