It won’t be long before the crisp fall air is upon us. When choosing fruits and vegetables this autumn, here are some that are not only jam-packed with taste but have a host health benefits for seniors too!
Snack on these natural goodies for a delectable treat!
An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away!
There are so many types of apples to choose from! From McIntosh and Red Delicious to Empire and Granny Smith, this sweet and crunchy fruit can be added to salads, served with peanut butter, prepared as applesauce and more! Apples are packed with vitamin A, B1, B2 and B6, as well as folic acid. These properties can help reduce the risk of developing cancer, hypertension, and heart disease.
Beet Yourself Up!
Beets are a low calorie, high nutrient, sweet and delicious vegetable! The list of vitamins and minerals are virtually endless! Beets are loaded with vitamins C and B6, as well as folate, magnesium, potassium, iron and more! Adding beets to your diet can lower blood pressure, fight inflammation, improve digestion and support brain health too!
A Shout Out to Brussel Sprouts!
Whether you like them roasted, baked or sautéd, adding brussel sprouts to your plate won’t be a disappointment! They are brimming with vitamins A and C and also have high concentrations of cancer-fighting glucosinolates. If you aren’t a fan of seafood, brussel sprouts are a great alternative to incorporating heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids into your diet.
