Why Crying is Good for You

Why Crying is Good for You
September 1, 2016
There are many people that believe crying is a sign of weakness. Those people have never been more wrong because crying is actually good for you! The next time you feel the tears building up — let ‘em rip!
Stress No More
There are chemicals in the body that build up when a person is stressed out. Those chemicals are unknown, but ACTH is a chemical that is abundantly found in the tears of those who are stressed. A theory suggests that this may be a chemical that builds up as we get stressed and then is released through tears. If you’re able to relieve yourself of stress by crying, everyone should be doing it more often.
Happy Days
Sad movies are something that can make many people cry while watching them. A study showed that 20 minutes after a movie ended, the people crying returned to their normal mood levels. However, 90 minutes after the movie ended, those same people felt a drastic improvement in their moods. This was compared to the people who didn’t cry who experienced a normal mood before, during, and after the movie.
Bodily Improvements
Crying can be a result from emotions, but also to clear out irritants and to keep the eyes lubricated. For example, onions release a sulphuric acid that can come in contact with your eyes. The tear glands will produce an excessive amount of tears to wash away this acid and nourish the cells on the eyes’ surfaces.
The next time you’re watching a sad movie, don’t fight back those tears — your body will thank you later. For other useful tips and information, visit our blog!
